Hello,
Last Friday Radio Dungog celebrated 1 year on air ... hip hip hooray !
Our transmitter was turned on April 20, 2011 and have been broadcasting continuously ever since using RadioBOSS as our primary content source.
Our progress using RadioBOSS was as follows:
1. On day one we ran music and station IDs 24 hours a day
2. We added hourly news bulletins - bought from Airnews (Australia) which is downloaded by FTP automatically
3. We added community announcements
4. We added sponsor messages (advertisements) and sent them to air 3 times per hour in blocks of 2-3
5. We added a live midday show
6. We added several pre-recorded and live shows
During this time RadioBOSS has been our primary content source with it's output streaming directly to the transmitter.
Studio inputs including studio microphones, and a feed from an outside broadcast studio are fed into a Behringer X-1622 USB mixer and then directly fed into RadioBOSS.
The problems that we are having relate to our current audio mixer - it doesn't do enough in terms of what is needed for a radio station studio. We need something that integrates with the RadioBOSS automation system ... typically:
1. Up to 4 microphone inputs (we have that now)
2. BIG VU meters to see the audio levels from the microphones
3. An auxiliary input for inputs from iPods and gadgets (we have that now)
4. Ability to interface a telephone line hybrid module
5. Buttons for "ON", "OFF" and "CUE" for each slider fader input
6. Ability to monitor audio out for the studio, and off-air audio from the transmitter
7. Ability to activate each studio locally as the studio that is "ON-AIR" and linked to the transmitter - whilst the other studios remain "OFF-AIR" and can be used for production purposes
8. Buttons on the mixer that can remote control a few software feature buttons on the screen of RadioBOSS like - "Play, "Pause" and "Stop" ... to reduce the need to grab a mouse during presenter assisted operation.
9. Other things that I've forgotten
It seems that modern radio studio mixer desks do not integrate sensibly with automation systems.
OLD ARCHITECTURE:
===============
ALL INPUTS (incl RadioBOSS) > MIXER > STUDIO OUTPUT > TRANSMITTER
NEW AGE ARCHITECTURE:
==================
ALL INPUTS (incl MIC INPUTS) > MIXER > RadioBOSS > STUDIO OUTPUT > TRANSMITTER
Does anyone know of a radio station mixer console that can solve this problem AND integrate easily with RadioBOSS OR do I have to build one myself ?
Thanks, Jamie C.
