Scheduler on Radioboss cloud

Hi
I am starting to think I am asking Radio boss cloud to do something it wont do!

Its a simple situation but so far no one seems to be able to help me so I thought I would post and see if any other users have the same issue it is a basic simple problem!

OK I have a number of folder one for each decade so 60 7080 90. So far so good.I created a playlist called it auto dj. I then set about adding items to it by adding two or three 60s same for 70 80s etc withj station id or jingle in between . This is teh main playlist that functions like an auto dj selecting random tracks from each of the decade folders. When it gets to the bottom of the list it returns to the top and repoeats . Its been doing that for almost 3 years now!

So I would like to in effect create a similar playlist but just selecting songs from lets say 80s. so I worked on a similar idea two or three random selections then a jingle two more tracks followed by a station id. In the sheduler I asked it to play that playlist at lets say 8 am fine . I made sure the option that deletes tracks once played did not have a tick in it so once played it would delet the entry in the playlist. Once it gets to the end of the list it has no more tracks of course. I want it to rotate and continue to keep selecting random songs for maybe an hour. The station Id Commercials etc are on seprate rotations and all function fine. My problem is getting the new 80s playlist to loop. Ok I could add lots on select randon track entries but how do I know how many I will need for an hour. I tried adding about 20 tracks and setting the time out to 3600 seconds hoping it would stop and be thrown back to the main Auto dj playlist but it didnt.

Hope you can understand my description I have been advised to read the scheduler info sorry that doesn't cover what I am asking. Ive looked on YouTube cant find anything useful. Ive tried about 4 times over the last year and now starting to think its time to ditch radioboss cloud if it isn't capable of this simple request.

I hope I'm doing something wrong and likewise would be very very grateful if someone has a solution. Many thanks

Kind regards Mike

Yes, this is rotation, it's looped. This is how it's supposed to work.

My problem is getting the new 80s playlist to loop.
If you want it to remain in the playlist after playback, you can check the "Insert as regular playlist tracks" option. But please be careful, if event is set to run every day, those 80s tracks will pile up in the playlist.

Another (and more reliable) way would be to set this event to repeat instead - in this case, it will play, then it's deleted, but after some time (=repeat period) it will play again.

Hi many thanks for the reply I just set up a new playlist and put 6 actual random tracks in the playlist. I started it via the sheduler all worked well but of course it ran out of tracks if i opted tor repeat then I presume it would stop after doing another 6 random tracks how does it return to the main auto dj rotation will the duration limit time out and stop the rotation in the new rotation and return back to the main auto dj rotation. Thanks for explaining this I think I was heading the wrong direction before. I don't want it to remain in the playlist ie the tracks it selects i just want the random rotation to remain in there that I could restart on another day.

Lastly if i opt for the second preferred option I could get it to repeat say 24 hours after. If I wanted teh rotation to last 1 hour this would depend on the track lengths. Could I use the duration limit to end the one hour period?

Thanks Dimtry,

Just thinking back at what I am trying to achieve.

I don't see how I can do it other than using a pc here at home acting as a presenter but selecting the random tracks.

I had hoped the scheduler would be able to play random tracks from a folder on the server for a period of one hour. I can see how to initiate the event everything works great, even the jingles commercials etc all work using different events in the scheduler BUT, as it is selecting the tracks I have no idea how many playlist entries I need to fill the full hour. There doesnt seem to be any way to stop the event after 60 mins other than there has to be the correct number of playlist entries to fill the hour which I cant know as I dont know what tracks the server will select.

I had hoped the duration limit would stop the event and return back to the auto dj?

My thoughts were to have say 30 random selections which would be more than an hours worth. The duration limit would then have taken care of the ending of the whole event after a timed 60 seconds.

I have done this in the past with other server control panels and other servers but having problems finding a way to do it on the cloud based radioboss.

Its such a basic requirement I'm thinking I must be missing something?

Thanks again for your help Just to repeat I am wanting to select an hours worth of random tracks from a single folder on the server and hand back to the auto after one hour.

Thanks for your thoughts

Im not sure what I was doing wrong but I have just tried a 120 second duration limit which meant it would play just one track and would then go back to the main autodj rotation and it worked. setting the repeat function to lets say an hour repeated the process and didnt add the files to the playlist. I was obviouslly doing something wrong but pleased it works. Had a good sleep last night that probably helped. Thanks for your help
Mike

as it is selecting the tracks I have no idea how many playlist entries I need to fill the full hour.
In this case you should ensure that it has at least one hour. Find the shortest track that it can select, divide 60 minutes by it and you have a number of tracks that will guarantee there'll be at least one hour of music.

I had hoped the duration limit would stop the event and return back to the auto dj?
Yes, duration limit will do exactly that.

You should start "main" rotation with the "Insert as regular playlist tracks" option. This will make it keep those tracks in the playlist. Other events will start/play/delete, but those will stay. Of course they will stay if there are no other events with "Replace playlist" option.

Ok I am getting very close.
I created sufficient tracks to last more than an hour.
It selecting random tracks from the 80s folder over and over until the duration limit is reached but instead of fading out and the auto dj starting,
when the scheduled track hit the duration limit it keeps playing the remainder of that track, plus the auto dj starts up so both tracks playing at the same time!

How can i stop this happening?

I have insert position set to replace playlist I have tried other settings but get the same problem.

What do you mean by Auto DJ? If you don't connect live, then only one stream plays from RadioBOSS Cloud. Please check if you have events with Overlay Playback option enabled, they will play together with the main playlist.

Hi Staff member,
As you can see this has been bugging me for some time. I am sure I am doing something basicly wrong when setting up this requirement The station normally runs with the looped 607080 country playlist. I created it to take one track from the 4 media folders containing the files. That runs fine.

I now want to schedule a 2 hour country show where the 2hours of music \ jingles are produced from another loop.I presumed that the sheduled track would playout when it was called time wise. sadly that didnt work and way back it was suggested I needed to create enoughtrequests for random selections to fill the whole 2 hours. This would be like cap6 but with repeated entries probably about 25 to cover the whole 2 hours.

I think thats what was suggested before.

So at 7pm I would get the scheduler to start the playlist auto country its just a name . That works! BUT as there are more tracks in the one I am using only shown a few in the pic at 9 pm instead of stopping it of course has maybe 5 6 or more tracks before it runs out. How do I stop it playing any more tracks at 9pm? and going back to the 607080 playlist which would and does keep looping. Somehow as you say I have two playlists playing at the same time one being the country 2 hour show remaining tracks and the other being what I call the main auto which is the looped 60 70 80 country loop.

Its really difficult to explain hopefully Ive done a little better this time. Ive just realised how does radioboss cloud know that the 60 70 80 country is my main looping playlist?

One last thing I tried setting the duration limit to 7200 seconds . The log saw the setting but carried on playing the 2 hour plus remaining tracks.

I wonder if I have got the whole settings wrong. Its only since ive tried to produce a two hour block of random tunes Ive had problems before I just had the rotation playing jingles and random tunes from just one mixed folder.

Is there any details anywhere that would explain how I can do what i'm trying to do please.

Good News Dimtry

Good news I have my rotation playlist now in the scheduler and set it to 00:00:00 so it resets every day at midnight. The 2 hour playout that has 24 items within the playlist starts up runs fine. Just one minor problem now how do I stop it after it has run for 2 hours as the long list of entries in the playlist probably run for 2 hours 10 mins not sure but certainly well over two hours which is what you recommended back in 2023. I completely understand why you suggested that. Feeling much happier now BUT my problem is the 2 hour scheduled show goes on way past the 2hours. Can I stop it with the duration limit? by setting it to 7200 seconds? Or by entering a time in the disable event at i.e. 9pm.

My breakthrough seemed to be I didn't have the rotation in a scheduled item and resetting it at midnight. Since I have done that everything seems to be working as expected. Initially I just had one playlist looping no scheduled shows the looped playlist filled in between live shows.

I was reading another members post only a few down from mine who was having similar issues and noticed that the main rotation had a scheduler entry of its own.

So I am happy! just now need to know how I can cut or fade after the 2hrs has passed please.

Many thanks for your help all along Im sorry for sending so many posts but the penny suddenly dropped.
Cheers Mike

Sorry having just read my message it sounds like everything is 100% ( badly worded).

Everything is great except the 2jour show overruns as I have no way of limiting the event to the 2 hours I need and deleting the remainder. How would I do that please.

Ok another late night I decided to try a simple test and report back my findings which didn't surprise me as this has been my problem but I have no idea how to address it. I have read the documentation on the scheduler many many times but I assume I must be missing something. Please help.

So the test was to create a 30 min show of 60s music.
As you suggested I created a playlist which consisted of 18 tracklists each a random selection of a track from my 60s media folder, plus 6 jingle tracklists from my Jingles folder. This would play for about 48 mins so a lot longer than the required 30 min show.

The scheduled event started at 2:16 as it had to wait for the track "perfect" to finish from the main rotation. It showed it had activated at 2:15 which is correct but waited for the song playing to finish.

The log shows it loaded 24 tracks 18 plus 6 jingles great so far. It then played exactly how I wanted it to BUT after 1800 seconds it saw the duration limit and recorded it in the log but then proceeded to carry on playing that track and many more until it had played out the remaining "extra " tracks. I was wanting it to stop at the end of 1800 seconds and change over to the main rotation it didnt!

I also had that strange situation where the remaining tracks were playing out on air together with the auto dj so audio from both auto dj and the scheduled over run tracks playing out.

Summing up why does the duration limit not do what it says and tracks keep loading and are played.

why when its in this situation does the main rotation play at the same time as the over running scheduled track.

Please study the log Screen shots . I really hope you can help me with this it has now become a nightmare I am currently thinking of a new automation program if this cant be fixed which would be a pity. I have been a loyal customer to Radioboss for many years but this is now driving me mad.

P.S> before setting this scheduled event I sent the main rotation to the player so we had a clean start.

Thanks for your help.

I meant the main rotation. There are no overlay playback enabled. As the sheduler goes back to the mainrotation both the main rotation and the tracks that made up the scheduled program described below plays so I have two feeds coming from radioboss. No live broadcasts are in operation at this time Radio boss is generating two audio streams one from the main rotation and one from the tracks that are the tracks that made the 48 mins of tracks in the test below.

Please see below for the latest situation

Duration limit does the following: when it reaches the limit, it will skip the rest of the tracks from that scheduled event in the playlist, and then play the next track. For overlay events it's different - it will simply stop it.

"when it reaches the limit, it will skip the rest of the tracks from that scheduled event in the playlist, and then play the next track."

I can understand that thanks for the speedy reply. So basically if it has lets say 4 more possible tracks to play that would take it past the duration limit these would all be skipped which is fine but it has to be told where to play the next track from. In my case I want it to go back to the main rotation and loop in there like normal. Could I ask how I can achieve this with my current setting i.e if I wanted it to go to the main rotation where would I put this instruction. If I put it as the very last item in the extended list which the show usesit would surely just remove tht instruction along with the other un needed tracks . I'm sorry to go on about this but it is pretty difficult for me to grasp what the radioboss requires to carry out what you have mentioned.

Just to run through whats happening at the scheduled time the playlist within the sheduled event will select a random track from the 60s music folder. Once played it will play the next then the next until it hits the duration timer. Once it hits that any remaining tracks are ignored and it is told to play the main rotation where do I have to insert that command to do this. If I just add a tracklist at the very end to the main rotation surely that will be deleted along with the remaining tracks which are still there after the duration time is reached. Wow this is really difficult to try and explain hope you are still understanding what I am saying.

My problem now is I dont know where to tell it to use the main rotation after the duration has been reached it currently just plays the next track in the sheduled rotation. I need it to jump back to the main rotation.

Many thanks for your help.

My main problem now

.

Update I just tried a short test this wa to play two tracks from the auto80s tracklist. The plan was it should start immediately and play most of the first song it played it all then detected it had gone past the 120 second duration limit. it shows that in the log says next track and proceeds to play what would have been the next track in the auto 80s tracklist which due to it reaching the duration limit should have been deleted. At the same time as it logged reaching the duration limit the main rotation started up! and played at the same time as the track it decided to play even thought it and any others should have been deleted.

This is the current situation

it has to be told where to play the next track from.
When the duration limit is reached, it will skip all tracks from the event, and play whatever's next in the playlist. It can be another event, or track in the playlist - depends on what's in the playlist.

To make things simpler: do not use Duration Limit at all. Schedule events to start when needed, in the majority of cases, that's enough.
