voice track vs. standard track

Hi. What is the difference between inserting a track in the playlist and pressing control+W to insert a voice track? When recording voice tracks, the outro of the previous song, and the intro of the next are taken in to consideration, but inserting a voicetrack does not create this scenario. What am I missing? If this is in deed a bug has it been fixed along with the promised changes to how voicetracks are handled?
Thanks.

After experimenting I found out why I was not getting the expected results. I did not know the file had to be in the voicetracks folder to be treated as such. I thought simply inserting a given file as a voicetrack would be enough.
